Battle Trophy Round 3 summary

Clark tames the Crail wind for a 69

By DAVID ROY
Crail GS manager
As predicted, the wind has strengthened, which is reflected in the third-round scores.  However, the round of the morning came from the experienced Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm) who birdied the first two holes on his way to a one-under front nine before he zig-zagged home with three birdies, an eagle and two bogeys to finish the round with an imposing 69 to commence the final round on one under 215 for the tournament.

Joining him on the same score is Marc Watt (Inverallochy), whose bogey-free back nine yielded two birdies to close with a 71.

Calum Fyfe (Cawder) has shown impressive consistency, dropping only two shots on his way to a 70 to leave him alone in second place on 212, replacing Callum Bruce (Duff  House Royal), whose back nine of 40 was his undoing.

Retaining an ice-cool composure in the face of a blustery wind that is gusting to 20 mph, Connor Syme (Drumoig) remains the man to beat. Four birdies in his round of 70 more than compensated for his two dropped shots to increase his lead by two and take the local man to 10 under for the tournament, six ahead of the field
The wind is not due to drop at all and the final round may yet prove to throw up some surprises
