Jason Day splits with long-time caddie Colin

Swatton in bid for late-season revival

Former world No 1 Jason Day has split with his long-time caddie following a run of poor form.
Day, who has not won since the Players' Championship in May last year, made the difficult decision to relieve Colin Swatton of his duties on the eve of the BMW Championship in the hope of sparking a late season turnaround.
The Australian said Swatton, who is also his swing coach, had been shocked by the news, after carrying Day's bag for all of his career.
"Obviously, this is a very hard time for both of us," said Day. "It's hard because we've been a team for so long. He was an amazing caddie, amazing coach, amazing person. He's done pretty much everything he can to get me where I'm going. He's a father figure for me ever since I was a kid, and I wanted to make sure that it's still there."
"I'm blaming him for nothing," Day added. "I never wanted it to turn into a toxic relationship where he's taken me from where I am as a 12-year-old kid to where I am today, and I'm not talking to him anymore."
"I was worried if I kept it going, it was going to head that way, and I love him too much to have him not in my life because of how special he is to me."
"Sometimes the chemistry just doesn't work," Day said of Swatton. "I'm hoping things move forward with us like they always have because we both love each other like family."
Day dominated on the PGA Tour from late 2015 through the first half of 2016, going on a run that saw him win his first major at the PGA Championship and rise to No 1 in the world. He remained at the top throughout 2016 but has since dropped to ninth during a lacklustre run of form.
His college roommate Luke Reardon will assume caddying duties for the BMW Championship this weekend, while close friend and Web.com tour player David Lutterus will be on the bag for the President's Cup.
Day has become the latest high-profile golfer to split with his caddie in 2017. In June, five-time major winner Phil Mickelson split with caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay after 25 years. And last month former world No 1 Rory McIlroy parted with his long-time caddie J.P. Fitzgerald.

Jason Day has not won since May 2016 when he captured the Players' Championship at TPC Sawgrass
