championship

Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm Golf Club) returned to defend his county hampionship prior to taking part in
the Scottish amateur championship this week.
His credentials
as an international player were on show when he completed the morning round with
a 2 under par round of 68 to lead by two shots from clubmate James McCullagh.
Two shots further
back was Stewart Watt (Old Ranfurly).
In the afternoon
round Matt Clark consolidated his position with a 2 over par round of 72 for a
total of 140.
This proved a
step too far for the other competitors with James McCullagh, as he put it, "back
to normal" with an 82.
Andrew Farmer
added a 73 to his morning 74 to finish in second place on 147, with Stewart
Watt finishing third, adding a 76 to his morning round for a 148 total. Four
players finished on 149, Ryan McKenzie (Erskine) and Owen Lavelle, Gary Price
and Alex Ferguson, all Paisley
The leading
available 16 qualifiers now go forward to compete in the county match-play
championship, again over the Ranfurly Castle Golf Club course, with the semi-finals and
final held on Sunday, August 6.
Due to work
commitments Matt Clark is unable to play but all other leading players are in
the field.
