Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm Golf Club) returned to defend his county hampionship prior to taking part in the Scottish amateur championship this week.

His credentials as an international player were on show when he completed the morning round with a 2 under par round of 68 to lead by two shots from clubmate James McCullagh.

Two shots further back was Stewart Watt (Old Ranfurly).

In the afternoon round Matt Clark consolidated his position with a 2 over par round of 72 for a total of 140.

This proved a step too far for the other competitors with James McCullagh, as he put it, "back to normal" with an 82.

Andrew Farmer added a 73 to his morning 74 to finish in second place on 147, with Stewart Watt finishing third, adding a 76 to his morning round for a 148 total. Four players finished on 149, Ryan McKenzie (Erskine) and Owen Lavelle, Gary Price and Alex Ferguson, all Paisley

The leading available 16 qualifiers now go forward to compete in the county match-play championship, again over the Ranfurly Castle Golf Club course, with the semi-finals and final held on Sunday, August 6.

Due to work commitments Matt Clark is unable to play but all other leading players are in the field.

Full results of the event and the match-play draw can be found on the Renfrewshire Golf Union web site.
