Clark wins West of Scotland Senior Open

at West Kilbride

By ALASDAIR MACGREGOR
Ronnie Clark (Erskine) won the West of Scotland Senior Open at West Kilbride (sponsored by McCrea Financial Services) with a one-under-par total of 141 (71-70).
Ronnie shared the overnight lead with Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) and his first round effort of level par  71 was an excellent score, given that he played in the worst of the weather conditions.
He did not get off to the best of starts in the second round with a bogey at the second hole and a double bogey at the third.  He repaired some of the damage with birdies at the fifth and seventh, but bogeyed the short ninth for an outward half of 38 (2 over par).  His score was made on the back nine with birdies at the 11th, 12th, 15th and 16th and although he bogeyed the tough 17th, his round of one under par 70 was good enough to give him the top prize.
Gary Tough (Edzell) was second with a total of 142 (73, 69).  His second round was very steady with birdies at the third, 10th and 12th.  His only bogey came at the eighth.
In third place on 145 (76-69) was Robert Jenkins (Royal Troon) who eagled the 3rd and birdied the 14th, but dropped a shot at the 9th.
Joint overnight leader Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) finished in joint fourth place after a disappointing 76 today.
The top handicap prize was shared by Gary Cochrane (Irvine Ravenspark) (3) and Phil Dempsey (Tulliallan) (4) on 141. Jalil Aman (Grangemouth) (3) was third on 143.
Alan White (Newton Stewart) had a hole in one at the 12th in the second round.
Par 71; SSS 71; CSS 74 (R/O), 72.
The next Scottish seniors' event is the Central Scotland Open at Glenbervie on July 6 and 7.
