Thirteen Scots miss halfway cut

Cruden Bay's Roger in jt  5th place in Welsh open amateur

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Thirteen Scots failed to beat the halfway cut in the Welsh men's open amateur championship at the Vale Resort today (Saturday).
That leaves nine from the "Tartan Army" to contest the last two rounds.
They are headed by young Cruden Bay player, Stephen Roger who shot a second-round 69 for a tally of two-under-par 144 but, even in joint fifth place, he is nine behind the runaway leader, Gian-Marco Petrozzi (Trentham) who has scored 66-69 for 11 under 135 over the par 73 course.
Barry Hume (Haggs Castle), and Sam Locke (Banchory), son of Paul Lawrie's swing coach, are joint 12th on 147, both having score 74-73.
They were joined on that mark late in the day by Turnhouse's Mark Napier who improved from an opening 77 to a 70.
