Big Johnson Tour event report and scores
Rafferty and Stewart tie with
68s at Montrose
68s at Montrose
Former Ryder Cup player Ronan Rafferty (Renaissance), a seven-time winner on the European tour and now in his 50s, and past Walker Cup man Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck), pictured right, coped with the cold and wind, not to mention a testing links course, better than their rivals in today's Big Johnson's Tour 18-hole competition, sponsored by Golf Finance Ltd.
They tied for victory with creditable rounds of 68 over the par-70 course, finishing one stroke ahead of the tour organiser, John Henry.
This event was staged at the Euro Pro Tour host venue to try to encourage more North and North-east pros to play in the tour events. In the end, out of a field of 15 players, three came from north of Montrose - Kris Nicol, Craig Lawrie and his cousin, Sean Lawrie. .
