TOP TEN USA FINISH BY SCOTTISH CHAMPION GEORGE DUNCAN
Scottish
amateur golf champion George Duncan from Dunbartonshire, a final-year student at Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tennessee had a top 10 finish in a field of 90
players at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, Ocean Ridge, Sunset Beach
in North Carolina.
Over
a par 72 course of 7,020yd, Duncan, pictured on the day he won the Scottish title at Balgownie, had rounds of 71 and 73 for a level
par total of 144 and a tied ninth finish, six shots behind the joint
winners, both from Duke University, Alex Marlari (67-71) and Shrish Dwivedi (70-68).
Another Lincoln Memorial University student, Ray Gordon from Alford finished joint 29th on 150 with rounds of 74 and 76
Another student from the North-east, Torphins' Craig Stephen (Brevard College) finished tied 75th on 156 with a pair of 78s.
Duncan and Gordon's efforts, plus those of English team-mate, Sam Broadhurst (72-70 for 142) from Nuneaton, who finished sixth, helped Lincoln Memorial win the team title with a total of 583, three ahead of joint runners-up Belmont Abbey College, Coker College and Lenoir-Rhyne University
Brevard College (604) finished eighth in a field of 15 teams.
