Robson off the boil but still wins seniors'
spring meeting by two
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Aberdeen businessman Nick Robson (Meldrum House) won the Scottish Senior Golf Society's spring meeting by two strokes from a field of 142 at Monifieth Links today.
But it was a different Robson from the man who shot a first-day, two-under-par 69 to open up a three-stroke lead at halfway.
In the second round, Robson took 78 blows (41-37), dropping nine shots in a 13-hole span sandwiched between birdies at the first and 16th.
His total of 147 still gave him victory with something to spare. Runner-up was Maurice Lindsay (Broughty) with rounds of 75 and 74 for 159.
Tied third on 150 were Graham Forrest (Northumberland) (76-74) and Graham Bell (Downfield) (72-80).
Nairn's Robert Smith threatened Robson's lead until he bogeyed the 11th, 14th, 16th and 17th, finishing 76-75 for a share of fifth place on 151.

Nick Robson battles through to Monifieth victory
GORDON THOMSON REPORTS
Nick Robson (Meldrum House) won
the Scottish Seniors’ Spring Meeting at Monifieth Links today with a fine
aggregate of 147 In the most demanding of weather conditions.
Nick added a 78 to his
excellent first round score of 69 to edge out local player, Maurice Lindsay (Broughty)
by two shots with early starters, Graham Forrest (Northumberland) and Graham
Bell (Downfield), who had set a good target of 150, one shot further back.
A group of eight players tied on
151 including backmarker Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) and Lindsay Gordon (Turnhouse),whose fine 73 was the best score of the second day.
Nick led by three shots overnight
but had to battle hard for his second round score. After an opening birdie he
dropped 8 shots in the next 10 holes but a fine birdie at the 15th
settled things down and he held on for victory. Having won the last event of
2015, Nick has clearly started where he left off and a good season should lie in
prospect.
Despite the difficult weather
conditions Monifieth Links again proved to be an excellent and hospitable venue
for the large field.
