Gordon
MacDonald (Glenbervie) Is the leader after today’s
first round of the Scottish
Super Seniors Open (for players
over 65) at Boat of Garten with an excellent score of 70.
This gives him a six shot lead over the chasing group of Alan McNaught
(Colchester), Patrick Tomisson (Nairn), George Rodaks (Pitreavie ) and Keith Bruce
(Edzell). The holder, Bill Erskine (Kilsyth Lennox ) is nine shots back on 79.
MacDonald, aged 67, has been in fine form this season and showed
his liking for the picturesque Boat of Garten course with his fine score. In
winning Senior Matchplay Championship at Stirling in July he showed that he is
still good enough to compete at the highest level.
Former Walker Cup player, Scott Macdonald (Dunfermline) who is
defending the trophy for players over the
age of 70, shot 77 to lead that category but can expect stiff competition
tomorrow from David Millar (New Club) and Brian Grieve (King James V1), who are
both one shot adrift, and Colin Moir (Worksop) on 79.
The late starters were caught in two heavy showers which
affected the scoring, with the CSS rising
to 72 for the par 70 course.
