Ronnie Clark wins SGU Seniors' Order of
Merit for first time
SGU NEWS RELEASE
Erskine’s
Ronnie Clark has been crowned the SGU Seniors Order of Merit winner for
2015, topping the domestic rankings for the first time at over-50s
level.
Building
on his fourth place finish in last season’s standings, the 54-year-old
stormed to an impressive 755 points during this campaign. That total was
helped by three victories from just six starts – one of which came with
a demo driver
after his own club was unfortunately run over in a car park.
Clark
began in style with victory at the North of Scotland event in Elgin in
May, before sharing top spot at the Central Scotland Open at Glenbervie
and then emerging victorious at the South of Scotland Championship at
Dumfries & County.
Clark,
commercial director of a construction company, admits he has been
building up his golf in recent seasons as he looks ahead to being
eligible for the over-55s circuit.
“During
my time at senior level, I’ve won six out of the 11 events I’ve played
in,” said Clark. “I’ve been building up my golf and I’d like to think
I’ve played well this season.”
It was his victory at Elgin that proved the greatest highlight of his year, given the remarkable tale that unfolded.
“Winning
up at Elgin with a replacement driver was a bit of a story,” added the
Erskine and Glasgow Golf Club member. “Somebody ran over my driver in
the car park, half an hour before my tee off time!
“The
pro up there was kind enough to give me a demo driver of another make. I
actually drove the ball pretty good with it, but I did get my old
driver replaced.”
Clark
beat Royal Troon’s Paul Moultrie into second place (713 points), with
David Gardner from Broomieknowe, the 2012 Seniors Order of Merit
champion, coming third on 597 points.
