EUROPEAN MEN'S INDIVIDUAL AMATEUR CHSHIP AT THE DUKE''S

 GREAT SCOTT! BORROWMAN IN THE

MIX WITH A THREE-UNDER 68

Dollar's Scott Borrowman returned to his best form today to return a three-under-par 68 for fourth place at the end of the first round of the European men's amateur individual championship over The Duke's Course near St Andrews.
Borrowman, a full-time amateur again after a year or two working for a furniture removal firm, is only two shots behind the leader, Irishman Gary Hurley with a five-under 66.
Hurley is a previous winner of the R and A Scholars Tournaments at St Andrews.
At the other end of the scoreboard there were some surprisingly high scores by rated Scots.
Irish open amateur stroke-play winner Jamie Savage (Cawder), for example, took 83 blows to get round while Royal Aberdeen's Nick Macandrew shot an 86 to be T139 in a field of 144.
