Forearm injury forces Vijay Singh to
miss two tournaments in Asia

Vijay Singh, winner on Sunday of the 2008 FedEx Cup on the PGA TOUR, announced today that doctors have recommended that he rest the forearm injury that has bothered him for the past few months and that it will impact his playing schedule for the next six to eight weeks.

Tendinitis in Singh’s left forearm will cause him to miss the Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysia from October 26 to November 2 and the HSBC Champions event at the Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai, November 6-9. The remainder of his 2008 schedule will be subject to his recovery from the injury.

“I’m very disappointed to have to miss the Iskandar Johor Open and the HSBC Champions event as I was looking forward to returning to Asia this fall,” said Singh. “I have been dealing with tendinitis in my forearm for a good part of the 2008 season, and my doctors instructed me to rest it to try and reduce the impact of the injury for the 2009 season. As disappointing as it will be to miss these events, it is important that I follow my doctors’ direction and do what is best for my long-term health.”

Singh won three events in 2008, including the Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship during the FedEx Cup playoffs, to win the second edition of the PGA TOUR’s playoff competition while rising to third place in the Official World Golf Rankings.
