PETERHEAD RISING STAR McLEAN
GETS HELPING HAND FROM
PAUL LAWRIE

FROM THE DAILY RECORD SPORTS WEBSITE
Former Open champ Paul Lawrie is helping a young Scot's bid to make a mark on the amateur golf scene.
Scotland youth cap Philip McLean, 20, will begin his second full campaign on the men's amateur circuit after a winter honing his game under the watchful eye of the 1999 Claret Jug winner.
The Peterhead ace, picture right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, spent a week with Lawrie, and coach Neil Marr at the five-star Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort in Murcia, Spain before Christmas and has since worked with the former Ryder Cup star at Meldrum House near Aberdeen.
He said: "It's brilliant for me to be able to learn from someone like Paul. He feels my game is improving all the time and that is nice to hear.
"I hope to take what I have learned and push on for a full Scotland cap this season."
McLean is not the first rising Scottish star to get a helping hand from Lawrie. He took Mark Loftus (Cowglen) under his wing for a spell. Mark won the Gleneagles PGA Scottish professional championship last summer.
Paul Lawrie also invests a lot of time and money in his junior programme in the North-east of Scotland.
Paul is also sponsoring the Scottish schools championships for the first time this year. They will be held at Inchmarlo Golf Centre and Banchory Golf Club in June.
