Senior men's pairs championship at Alicante

ABERDEEN PAIR PIRIE AND
JOHNSTON HEAD SCOTS'
CHALLENGE IN SPAIN

Former Walker Cup player Sandy Pirie (Hazlehead) and Royal Aberdeen's John Johnston, pictured right, were leading the Scottish challenge at the end of the first day of the 36-hole Spanish senior men's open amateur pairs golf championship at Bonalba Golf Club, Alicante.
They shot a one-under-par 71 to be lying joint fourth in a field of 60 pairs, four shots behind the leaders, Nuno de Brito Cunha from Portugal and his Spanish partner, Federico Lang.
The individual championship starts at the same venue on Friday when Gordon Macdonald from Callander will be bidding to complete a hat-trick of victories.
