WORLD UNIVERSITIES CHAMPIONSHIPS

IN-FORM GORDON SPEARHEADS GB
INTO LEAD - BUT WHAT'S HAPPENED
TO HEATHER?

Stirling University student Gordon Yates followed up his individual success in the weekend International Collegiate championship at St Andrews Bay by leading Great Britain into the first-round lead in the men’s section of the world universities golf team championship at Circolo Golf Torino in Italy today.
Gordon shot a five-under-par 67 to tie for the first-day individual honours with Italy’s Alberto Campanile.
Englishman Daniel Willett was joint fourth on 69.
Team-mates Jason Palmer and Ed Parker scored 75 and 77 respectively. Parker’s score was the team’s non-counter.
Faye Sanderson (77) and Olivia Briggs (82) were well down the women’s first-round field which was headed by Italy’s Anna Roscio with a three-under-par 69 – two ahead of American Sara Brown.
Ireland’s Catherine Tucker, Gillian O’Leary and Niamh Kitching scored 77, 81 and 82 respectively but there was no mention of Heather MacRae (Dunblane New & San Diego State University), who was down on the starting sheet to play at 12.44.
