DIAGEO/ELGIN GOLF CLUB PR0-AM
HUTCH WINS £2,222 PRIZE BY THREE
STROKES WITH SEVEN-UNDER 131
Peterculter’s Greig Hutcheon, pictured right, with rounds of 66 and 65 for a seven-under-par aggregate of 131, was the clear-cut winner of the £2,222 first prize in the Diageo/Elgin Golf Club 36-hole Centenary pro-am individual tournament.
Only one shot ahead of Craig Ronald and Dean Robertson overnight, Hutcheon, winner of the Scottish PGA championship in 1999, improved with the second day’s best score of four-under-par 65 while his two immediate rivals did not.
Carluke’s Ronald repeated his opening 67 and with a four-under total of 134 he collected the £1,777 second-placed prize while Robertson (Czech Design) added a 70 for 137 to finish third.
Colin Gillies (Kingsfield) had the second-best return of the day, a 66, and that lifted him up to a share of fourth place on 139 with Ross Drummond (Prestwick Driving Range).
Craig Lee (All Swing Golf Centre), who tied for sixth place with a pair of 70s, did lead home the winning team of amateurs in the second round – Elgin Refrigeration Services’ Gordon Shanks (14), Lee Shanks (9) and Andrew Duncan (16). They had a net total of 58 but won only by the better inward half.
