Defending champion and leading qualifier Scott Mann (Carnoustie Caledonian) won his first match-play tie of the 2006 tournament by 2 and 1 against Terence Brown (Stand), the 64th qualifier.
Scott now plays another Englishman, Jon Greenough (West Lancs), the No 32 qualifier.
Graham Marshall (Bristall), last year's beaten finalist and again the N0 7 qualifier - which means he is in the opposite half of the draw from Scott Mann, won a little bit more easily. He beat Paul Borek (Dunscar) by 5 and 4.
