First two holes halved.
Nixon won third to go one up.
Fourth hole halved.
Johnston won fifth and sixth holes to go one up.
Seventh hole halved.
Nixon squared game by winning the eighth.
Johnston edged one up again by winning the ninth
Nixon won the 10th to be all square again.
11th, 12th and 13th holes halved.
Johnston went one up by winning the 14th.
But Nixon had an eagle 2 at the 15th to get back to all square.
The 16th holed was halved in birdie 3s.
Nixon won the short 17th with a birdie 2 from 20ft to go one up.
Nixon won the 18th with a par 4 when Johnston three-putted.
Nixon one or two under par for the round which took only 3hr 5min.
BJORN AKESSON (Sweden) bt SAM STUART (Chorley) 2 and 1.
Stuart won first hole.
Second and third hs halved
Akesson squared match by winning the fourth.
Fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 11th holes halved.
Akesson led for the first time by winning the 12th.
13th hole halved.
Akesson went two up by winning the 14th.
15th, 16th and 17th holes halved, leaving Akesson winner by 2 and 1.
FOWLES WINS UNDER-17 AWARD
Billy Fowles (Wentworth) named winner of Peter Garner Trophy by R&A officials. Trophy goes to best performance by a player Under-17 years of age on August 19.
There were three players to qualified by age - Marius Junker (Germany), Billy Fowles (Wentworth) and Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck).
Stewart's big defeat ruled him out. The other two contenders were both beaten by 3 and 1. The prize then went to the younger of the two - 16 year old Fowles.
