Highlander Bryan Fotheringham from Forres shot a second-round, one-over-par 73 for a halfway total of three-over 147 in the AIB Irish open amateur stroke-play golf championship over the testing Portmarnock links today (Sat).

The cack-handed John Gallagher (Swanston), last year’s beaten finalist in the British amateur, helped him also to make his debut in the home internationals, had a disappointing Saturday. He had a 78 for 152.
Euan McIntosh from Newmachar had an 81 for 157.
Scots among the later starters included George Murray (Earlsferry Thistle), beaten in a play-off for the Lytham Trophy last weekend, the Craigielaw brothers Elliot and Zack Saltman, Scott Jamieson (Cathkin Braes), Scott Hnry (Cardross) and Jonathan King (Glasgow).
