US WOMEN'S GOLF SUMMARY

VIKKI ONE OVER PAR IN ARIZONA

 

Vikki Laing from Musselburgh was in joint 57th place in a field of 141 at the end of the first round of the Tucson Duramed Futures Tour tournament at the Tucson Golf Complex, Arizona.

Vikki shot a one-over-par 71 with birdies at the first and sixth but bogeys at the second, third and fifth on a day when 56 players scored par or better over the 6,1256yd course.

Polly Willett from London was sharing 13th place after a 68 – four off the pace being set by Randi Meadows from San Antonio, Texas.

 

SCOTS TOIL IN TEXAS

 

Scotland international player Gemma Webster (Ohio State University) and Louise Fleming (Jacksonville State University), the Scottish Under-21 champion from Kelso continued to run up bogeys galore in the second round of the NCAA Division 1 Central Region women’s college tournament at Traditions Golf Club, Bryan in Texas.

Hilton Park GC member Gemma has had rounds of 82 and 85 for 24-over-par 167 and joint 86th place. Miss Webster had double bogeys at the fourth, seventh, and 12th and a triple bogey at the 13th in halves of 43 and 42 in her second round.

Louise dropped six shots to par over three long holes with double bogeys at the sixth, 12th and 15th in halves of 44 for her 88. She is sharing 100th place in a field of 106.

Ireland’s Tara Delaney (Kent State) is in joint 14th place with 74 and 77 for 151. The Carlow youngster birdied the 11th, 12th and 14th but had a double bogey at the 13th.

Kent State team-mate Becky Wood has had a pair of 77s for 154 and a share of 29th place.

TOUGH FOR KATY IN MICHIGAN

 

Carnoustie’s Katy McNicoll, a student at Lynn University, Boca Raton in Florida, had to settle for a second-round 82 and a share of 15th place on 159 after a day of bad weather for the second round of the NCAA Division 2 women’s college championship at The Meadows Golf Club, Allendale in Michigan.

Over a course of only 5,882yd, the best second-day score was a two-over-par 74 and there were lots of scores in the 80s and 90s.

Katy’s only birdie came at the fourth and she had double bogeys at the 10th and 12th.

Lindsey Bergeon (Florida State) (72-76) and Mariana De Biase (Rollins College) (74-74) lead the field of 48 players on 148.

Lynn University (636) are in third place in a field of eight teams. Rollins (611) lead from Ferris State (625).
