DAVID SKINNS SHARING LEAD IN HOOTERS TOUR EVENT

It's been a good Hooters Tour event so far this week with former US college circuit player David Skinns from Lincoln sharing the lead with two Americans on five-under-par 139 (71-68) and Gyles Robin (Jersey) joint fourth on 141 (69-72) as well as Chris Cannon from Brighton in joint ninth position on 142 with a pair of 71s.

RUSSELL KNOX NOT DOING TOO BADLY ON NATIONWIDE TOUR

Former US college golf circuit player Fergal Rafferty, entered from "Carrickmore, Ireland," finished joint 10th in the Hooters Tour weekend event, the Victoria Texas Open at Victoria Country Club Texas.
Rafferty shot 74, 66, 65 and 70 for nine-under-par 275 and a pay-out of $4,755.
The standard of scoring of the winners on the Hooters Tour continues to impress. The winner of the Victoria Texas Open, Jeff Corr finished 20 under par with rounds of 67, 66, 65 and 66 for 264 to his the $28,000 individual jackpot.
Mind you, Inverness exile Russell Knox, pictured right, made a good living on the Hooters Tour over the past few years, more money that he is making since he earned promotion to the Nationwide Tour.
Knox finished joint 35th in the recent Mexico Open at El Bosque GC, Leon with scores of 71, 72, 72 and 67 for 282, which earned him $3,710 which might not leave much change from a week's trip to Mexico.
Winner of that Nationwide Tour event was the double transplant man, Erik Compton (fascinating story, you should read it sometime on the Nationwide Tour website: scroll down to get the link) with scores of 68 70, 68 and 65 for 271 which earned him $126,000.
Have just checked the Nationwide Tour money list this morning and Russell Knox is in 27th place, thank you very much, with $70,947 earned from eight tournaments. He is the leading British or Irish player on the money table.
Englishman Gary Christian is 34th with $57,906 from nine vents. Compatriot Greg Owen, who lost his playing rights on the No 1 US PGA Tour at the end of last season, is in 37th place with $50,103 from 10 events; and another Englishman, Matthew Richardson, is 132nd with $8,339 from eight events.
So Russell Knox is doing OK on the Nationwide Tour. It just seemed he was earning less than he did on the Hooters Tour. Pity the Inverness exile is not playing this week in the Barclays Scottish Open at Castle Stuart.
By the way, at the top of the Nationwide Tour money table it is:
1 Matthew Goggin (Australia) $303,898 from nine events.
2 Erik Compton (the double heart transplant man) with $215,709 from nine events.
3 Kyle Thompson, $214,568 from 10 events.

ANOTHER HOOTERS TOUR TOP 10 FINISH BY RUSSELL KNOX

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Colin@scottishgolfview.com
Inverness exile Russell Knox, winner of $85,950 on the NGA Hooters Tour in America last year, is off and running again with a top-10 finish in this weekend's 72-hole event, the Ocala Classic at Golden Hills Golf & Turf Club, Ocala in Florida.
In fact, Knox, who stayed on at Jacksonville Beach, Florida after four years on the US college golf circuit as a Jacksonville University student, will be kicking himself he slipped from fourth place with 18 holes to go to joint eighth on nine-under-par 279 today.
Knox, a former Scotland youth cap, had rounds of 70, 69, 69 and 71 over the par-72, 7,301yd course and earned $5,261.
He finished seven shots behind the winner, local player Ted Potter who posted a 16-under-par total of 272 with scores of 72, 67, 67 and 66. Potter thus won the Hooters Tour jackpot prize of $28,000 two weeks in a row.
Two other Scots in the field, North-east Alliance champion Paul Cormack from Inchmarlo, Banchory, and twice past Scottish youths champion Joel Hendry from Elgin, finished joint 33rd and joint 42nd respectively in a starting field of 168 players.
Cormack, who missed the cut last week, scored 72, 69, 75 and 72 for level par 288. He earned $1,600.
Hendry, who now lives at Bluffton, South Carolina, shot 73, 70, 71 and 76 for 290. He earned $1,338.
John Morgan from Bristol was lying fifth after rounds of 69, 72 and 68 he suffered rotten luck early in his final round. He injured his wrist early on and had to retire at the seventh hole - so instead of a fistful of dollars he was likely to win, John finished up empty-handed. Golf can be so unfair at times!

SCOTS TO FORE IN WEATHER-HIT HOOTERS TOUR EVENT

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Colin@scottishgolfview.com
This time last year Banchory's Paul Cormack was winning the North-east Alliance championship by a big margin.
But instead of defending that title, Paul, pictured, has bigger fish to fry. He's been in America for some time now and this week he's in a huge field of 168 players at the NGA Hooters' Tour event, the Ocala Classic at Golden Hills Golf and Turf Club, Ocala in Florida.
Cormack's not doing too badly. He has had rounds of 72 and 69 for a tally of 141 which is three-under par and in joint 11th place among the qualifiers (145 or better made the cut).
The storms that delayed the WGC event, the Cadillac Championship elsewhere in Florida, have also put the Hooters Tour event way behind schedule.
Inverness exile Russell Knox, one of the satellite circuit's biggest money winners over the past few seasons, finished very late on Friday with a 69 to add to his opening 70 and he is in joint sixth position.
John Morgan from Bristol was one of those who did not complete his second round until Saturday. He had a first-round 69 followed by a 72 for 141 and joint 11th position.
Twice past Scottish youths champion from Elgin, Joel Hendry, now based in Bluffton, South Carolina, made the cut after rounds of 73 and 70 for 143.
Ruaidhri McGee from Londonderry, Northern Ireland failed with scores of 72 and 74 for 146.
David Skinns from Lincoln has had a pair of 70s for 140 and he is five shots away from the  clubhouse leader, American Jesse Hutchins who has had scores of 68 and 67 for nine-under-par 135 over a course measuring just over 7,300yd

McKNIGHT SLUMPS WITH FINAL 77 ON HOOTERS TOUR

Former Scotland junior international Robert McKnight blew up in the final round of the NGA Hooters Tour Winter Series event at Sugarloaf Mountain Golf Club, Minniola, Florida.
Well enough placed in joint 22nd place with one round to go in the 54-hole event, McKnight followed up his opening rounds of 70 and 72 with a five-over-par 77 over the 7,107yd course.
That dumped the Scot down to 40th place on three-over-par 219 and reduced his payslip to $766.
McKnight, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, bogeyed the first four holes  and birdied the long ninth to be out in 39. He bogeyed the 12th, birdied the long 12th, and had another bad run of bogeys at the 13th, 14th and 15th before making it a hat-trick of birdie 4s at par-5 holes at the 18th.
Ted Potter from Ocala, Florida was the winner of the top prize of $11,330 with a 10-under-par total of 206, made up of scores of 71, 68 and 67.He won by two shots from Jeff Corr (Longwood, Florida) who earned $5,601 for rounds of 70, 70 and 68.
Former British amateur champion Reinier Saxton from Amsterdam earned $2,768 for finishing sixth on 210 with rounds of 67, 71 and 72.

SHOULDER INJURY PUTS WALLACE BOOTH ON SIDELINES

Wallace Booth is not having the best of luck as he tries to get his career as a tour pro off the ground. Having flown to the United States to play in some Hooters Tour events, the former Walker Cup player from Comrie, Perthshire had to withdraw from this week's event at Sugarloaf Mountain Golf Club in Florida.
Wallace told Scottishgolfview.com in an E-mail:
"My ongoing shoulder problem from last year forced me to pull out unfortunately. I will keep you updated."
Former Scottish junior international Robert McKnight, now based at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is lying in joint 22nd position with one round to go in the 54-hole event.
The Scot has had rounds of 70 and 72 for 142.
American Matt Hill leads on seven-under-par 137 with scores of 68 and 69.
The group of five players on 138 include former British amateur champion Reinier Saxton from Amsterdam. He has scored 67 and 71.

US COLLEGE NEWS: James Byrne probably did well to salvage a two-over-par 74 in his first US college event of the year. Switch over to http://www.kirkwoodgolf.co.uk/ where we carry our American college golf service and we'll tell you more about the Arizona State University student's awful start to his round.

WALLACE BOOTH MISSES CUT IN HOOTERS TOUR DEBUT

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Colin@scottishgolfview.com
Wallace Booth missed the cut in his debut on the NGA Hooters Tour, one of the leading American satellite pro golf circuits.
Booth, a former Walker Cup player who failed to win a European Tour player's card, had rounds of 72 and 77 for five-over-par 149 over the 6,978yd Rio Pinar Country Club course today (Wednesday).
Booth failed to score a birdie in his second round which was ruined by double bogey 6s at the 12th (his second) and second (his 11th). He also dropped a shot at the fourth.
"I started on the back nine the first round and was four over par through 5 but managed to get it together and finishing up shooting level-par 72. The second round I started on the first and again had a bad start," Wallace told Scottishgolfview.com by E-mail.
Wallace, from Comrie, Perthshire, entered the Hooters Tour event from an Augusta, Georgia address. He spent four years as an Augusta State University student.
A Walker Cup player of 2009 vintage, Chris Paisley from Newcastle, missed the cut by two shots with scores of 70 and 74 for 144. Paisley, like Booth, played the American college circuit for four years as a student at the University of Tennessee and has many contacts in that area. He entered from Gray, Tennessee.
Paisley, who finished high up in last week's Hooters Tour event, has gained playing rights for the upcoming Alps Tour.
Only the leading 40 and ties on 142 or better advanced to the third round of the Hooters Tour event. Paisley's second round included a costly double bogey 6 at the eighth.
Will Wilcox from Alabama leads on 136 with scores of 66 and 70.

WALLACE BOOTH FINDS PAR NOT GOOD ENOUGH ON HOOTERS TOUR

COLIN FARQUHARSON reports
Former Walker Cup player Wallace Booth has made the trip from his Comrie base in Perthshire to America in search of a tour he can play on.
Booth is lying joint 50th in a field of 128 players after the first round of this week's NGA Hooters Tour Winter Series event at Rio Pinar Country Club near Orlando, Florida.
Wallace, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, shot a par 72 over the 6,878yd course which, you would think, was a reasonable effort but in the highly-competitive realms of the Hooters Tour, a par round does not cut much ice.
Booth is in danger of missing the cut down to the leading 40 and ties after two rounds. Wallace was going nicely with birdies at the second, fourth and eighth in a three-under-par 33 to the turn but he lost his way after that with bogeys at the long 10th, 11th, 13th and 14th. A birdie at the long 16th got him home in 39.
Booth is entered out of Augusta, Georgia where he was a student at Augusta State University for four years.
Another past Walker Cup player - 2009 vintage - Chris Paisley from Newcastle is sharing 25th place in the same tournament with a two-under 70 (33-37) He birdied the fifth, and got an eagle 2 at the par-4 sixth but then his sub-par golf dried up.
Paisley, who picked up a fistful of dollars for a high finish on the Hooters Tour last week, covered his last 12 holes in one over par with 11 pars and a bogey at the 14th.
Leading the field is Hooters Tour regular Will Wilcox from Alabama with a 66.
Inverness exile Russell Knox, one of the NGA Hooters Tour's most prolific dollar-earners over the past two or three years, is missing out on this and last week's event while he tries his luck at Monday qualifying to get into US PGA Tour events.

HOOTERS TOUR MAY CHANGE ITS NAME BUT IT WILL SURVIVE

FROM THE GOLFWEEK WEBSITE
By Sean Martin
Hooters of America was sold this week, raising questions about the future of one of golf’s largest mini-tours.
Hooters, the restaurant chain known for its hot wings and attractive waitresses, was purchased by a consortium of private investors.
The transaction brings to an end nearly three decades of Hooters ownership by the family of founder Robert H. Brooks, who died in 2006. According to a news release from Chanticleer Holdings, which is among the new owners, “Brooks was known in part for his colorful and often unorthodox expansion of Hooters into ventures such as an airline and NASCAR.”
Sponsorship of the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina-based golf tour is one of those ventures.
Hooters is the title sponsor of the National Golf Association/Hooters Tour, which is on equal footing with the eGolf Professional Tour as the biggest tours for players without US PGA Tour or Nationwide Tour status.
Mike Pruitt, the chief executive officer and chairman of Chanticleer Holdings, declined comment when reached by Golfweek, saying that he was not authorised to comment on the transaction.
Hooters Tour president Robin Waters told Golfweek, “They’re committed through 2011. We hear from Hooters that they’re committed. They’ve got a lot of large issues on their plate with the changeover. They’ll get to us eventually.”
Among the decisions facing the new owners is whether to continue the tour’s title sponsorship, one of Hooters’ main marketing initiatives. Hooters is the NGA/Hooters Tour’s largest sponsor, Waters said.
Waters said he has “no doubt’’ that the NGA Tour could survive without Hooters’ sponsorship, adding: “The NGA is a solid business model.”
The NGA/Hooters Professional Golf Tour, founded in 1988 by R.C. “Rick’’ Jordan as the Hooters/Jordan Tour, lists 15 companies as sponsors on its website. As with golf tours at all levels, securing sponsorships continues to be a challenge in this economic climate. However, Waters said the tour could attract a new title sponsor, should Hooters pull out.
“Over the years, we’ve had people contact us about being involved as title or presenting sponsors.”
The 21-event season begins on February 16 in Eustis, Florida.

FISTFUL OF DOLLARS FOR CHRIS PAISLEY ON HOOTERS TOUR

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Colin@scottishgolfview.com
Newcastle's Chris Paisley, who turned pro after the 2009 Walker Cup match at Merion, has collected his biggest cheque so far - $4,263 for finishing joint third in the NGA Hooters Tour event at Timacuan Golf Club, Lake Mary, Floriday today .
Paisley, pictured, who spent four years at the University of Tennessee and played out of Gray, Tennessee in this event on the US satellite tour, set the clubhouse target of 11-under-par 205 with rounds of 69, 69 and 67.
But he was overtaken by James Vargas (Miami) and Billy Hurley (Annapolis, Maryland). Vargas had rounds of 69, 65 and 69 for 14-under-par 202, which earned him the top prize of $12,462 by two shots from Hurley who scored 71, 65 and 68 for 204 for a prize of $6,167.
Paisley eventually figured in a triple tie for third place with Jhared Hack (Sanford, Florida) (68-70-67) and Ryan Gildersleeve (Clearwater, Florida) (71-66-68).
Paisley previous collected 700 Euros for finishing third at the Alps Tour Final Q School in November.
Scot Russell Knox, based at Jacksonville Beach, Florida, since his college days at Jacksonville University and one of the most prolific money-winners on the Hooters Tour since he turned pro, missed this latest event as he tried to Monday qualify for a US Tour event.

RUSSELL KNOX BEATEN IN HOOTERS TOUR PLAY-OFF

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
A bogey at the very last hole cost Russell Knox $5,400 - the difference between first and second prize in this week's NGA Hooters Tour winter series 54-hole competition at Deer Island Golf Club, Tavares in Florida.
The Inverness exile and former Scotland youth cap, who stayed on in Florida after four years at Jacksonville University, was two shots ahead of the field with only the 54th hole to play.
But Russell, pictured, bogeyed it and his nearest rival, Cliff Kresge from Kingsport, Tennessee, birdied it, meaning a two-stroke swing in the American's favour, which enabled him to tie on 13-under-par 203 with Knox.
Kresge then won a sudden-death play-off to pocket the $10,670 top prize while Knox was left to contemplate the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune - as William Shakespeare would have put it - as he drove home to Jaccksonville Beach with the runners-up cheque for $5,238.
Knox's rounds over the par-72, 7,029yd course, were 67, 66 and 70 - he had a double bogey 6 at the sixth in his closing round - while Kresge scored 67, 69 and 67.
England's Chris Paisley, a member of the 2009 Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team at Merion and now a professional, finished joint 11th on 211 (70-72-69) and earned $1,866.
Former Scotland boy international Robert McKnight, now based at Sunrise, Florida, missed the 36-hole cut by two shots with scores of 73 and 74 for 147.

A few dollars more for Russell Knox

Russell Knox from Inverness earned $3,378 for a joint 13th place finish on Sunday in the weekend Hooters Tour event, the Savannah Lakes Village classic at Monticello Golf Club, McCormick in South Carolina.
Russell started well and finished well with a 66 and 68 but two 71s (over a par-72 course of 7,032yd) in the middle lost him ground on a satellite tour where the standard of scoring is phenomenal. Knox finished on 276, 12 under par but five shots behind the winner of the $40,000 jackpot prize, Will Wilcox from Alabama with scores of 65, 68, 67 and 61 for 271.
He won by a shot from Patrick Nagle (California) with 71, 66, 68 and 67 for the $19,923 runner-up prize.
