Day 1 Report: Scottish Boys’ U16 Open Championship
In wet conditions at Royal Burgess, it was France’s Theodore Reitter who finished at the top of the leaderboard with a stunning five-under par round of 66.
After getting off to a flying start, Reitter reached the turn in four-under, before adding two more birdies and his only bogey of the day on the back nine.
Reitter will go into tomorrow’s second round two shots clear of England’s Will Coxon whose round of 68 included four birdies and an eagle.
Leading the Scottish charge one shot further back at two-under is Falkirk’s Ross Laird, closely followed by Pitreavie’s John Vogelpohl at one-under
Home favourite Cameron Adam also put in a solid performance with a level-par opening round of 71 to sit five shots back of the lead.
Last year’s runner-up, France’s Martin Couvra, will have work to do if he is to go one better than last year after an opening round of 75.
Following tomorrow’s second round, there will be a cut with the top-60 and ties progressing to Thursday’s final round.
