Paul Lawrie to play in Sinclair Invitational at Hanbury Manor

Press Release

Paul Lawrie, The 1999 Open Champion, has confirmed he will play The Sinclair Invitational, a senior tournament taking place at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel and Country Club from August 30-September 1.

The tournament enters a new chapter this year, as an increased prize fund elevates its status on the Staysure Tour Order of Merit, now only behind the Senior Major Championships in terms of available points.
Lawrie, who turned 50 earlier this year, adds to what is expected to be an extremely strong field of Ryder Cup stars and European Tour winners, with 2003 Open de France champion Philip Golding already confirmed for the tournament.
Aberdonian Lawrie famously won The Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Links in 1999 as he defeated Justin Leonard and Jean van de Velde in a play-off and has a total of seven European Tour titles to his name.
The two-time Ryder Cup player, who delivered a crucial Sunday Singles point in the ‘Miracle at Medinah’, is excited to continue his maiden season in the over-50s game and expects The Sinclair Invitational to be a great spectacle.
“I am really excited to play in The Sinclair Invitational,” he said. “Viewing from afar, it’s a tournament which has been a great success over the last few years and I’m looking forward to being a part of it as it enters a new chapter.
“Duncan and Corrine Sinclair deserve enormous credit for building such a fantastic tournament and I am sure it will be a brilliant week on the Staysure Tour. Hanbury Manor is a wonderful venue and the perfect setting for one of the year’s biggest tournaments.”
H,ead of the Staysure Tour David MacLaren is delighted to have a Major Champion commit to a tournament which has become one of the highlights of the Staysure Tour’s calendar.
“We are so pleased to welcome Paul to The Sinclair Invitational,” he said. “Paul is one of the biggest names in golf, not only on the over-50s' scene but in world golf and having his name associated with the tournament increases its credence.
“Having players of Paul’s calibre playing at Hanbury Manor is credit to Corrine and Duncan Sinclair who have worked tirelessly to make this tournament a success and the fact it now bears their name is testament to their dedication.”
