Edzell seniors to the fore at Duff House Royal

By ALASDAIR MACGREGOR
Edzell players filled the top two spots at the Scottish Seniors Golfing Society North of Scotland event at Duff House Royal.
Glenn Taylor won the gold medal for top scratch prize with rounds of 71 and 64 for a one-under-par total of 135. He finished three shots ahead of clubmate Gary Tough, the overnight leader, who added a three-over-par 71 to his opening round of 67.
Taylor looked like finishing lower than 64 after recording eight birdies in his opening 14 holes to stand seven under par for his round with four holes to play. However, he dropped three shots on the tough finishing stretch of the Banff course.
Taylor birdied the first, fourth, seventh, eighth, 10th, 11th, 12th and 14th, but bogeyed the fifth, 15th, 17th and 18th.
Gary Tough got off to a great start with birdies at the first two holes. He added another birdie at the eighth but dropped shots at the seventh, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th.
There was a three-way tie for third place on 140 between Stewart Henderson (Hamilton) (74, 66), Duncan Low (Gullane) (70, 70) and Graham Bell (Downfield) (70, 70).
The bronze medal for best handicap score was won by local player Ian Angus (3), who had net scores of 67 and 68 for a total of 135. He won by one shot from Andrew MacGill (Kemnay) (7) who had net rounds of 67, 69 for a total of 136.
Par 68; SSS 69; CSS 70, 70.
