Hazel MacGarvie shines but it's a

gray day for Shannon, Hannah

Hazel MacGarvie (Troon Ladies) had a great second-round of four-under-par 68 today (Thu) in the European women's amateur championship at the Penati Golf Result, Slovakia but Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne), Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) and Clara Young (North Berwick) were nowhere near that level of performance.
Chloe Goadby (St Regulus), however, improved by eight strokes with a 71 for 150
Young MacGarvie had six birdies and two bogeys as she improved by seven strokes on her first-day score and she has moved up to 19th position on one-under 143, eight behind the German leader, Esther Henseleit (64-71).
McWilliam slumped from a 71 to a 79 for 150 and a share of 70th place. The Curtis Cup player was going reasonably well when reaching the turn in 35, despite a 7 at the long ninth, but she took 44 blows for the inward half including a 9 at the par-5 17th and a double bogey 6 at the 18th.
McCook's scores of 81 and 79 for 160 and 130th position must be disappointing for the Grantown on Spey player who won the Welsh and Irish open stroke play titles back to back earlier in the summer.
