FRANSSEN STARTS WELL, FINISHES BADLY IN USA
Rory Franssen from Inverness, a student at the University of Missouri, shot four birdies (at the first, second, fourth and 10th) in a bogey-free first 10 holes but he lost his momentum with bogeys at the 15th, 16th and 17th to end the first round with a one-under-par 71 in the Bank of Tennessee college golf tournament at Jonesborough, Tennessee today (Friday USA time).
Franssen was lying joint 21st in a field of 84 players at the end of the first day.
Team-mate Jamie Stewart from had two birdies and two bogeys for a par 72 and was sharing 28th place.
J D Hughes (Penn State) set the early pace with a six-under-par 66.
Leading British player was Rhys Nevin-Wharton (Tennessee) in T11 position with a 70. Rhys comes from Crewe.
