McLaren extends NE District Open lead to 8

shots as rival Munro takes a 12 at the eighth.

Overnight leader Stuart McLaren (Bruntsfield Links) could manage only a three-over-par 75 in the third round of the North-east District Open, sponsored by Kings Links Golf Centre, at Newmachar - but increased his lead to eight strokes!
That was because his nearest challenger, home course player Gordon Munro, pictured, ran up a 12 at the par-5 eighth on his way to birdie-less round of 83 for 222.

Munro hit four balls out of bounds off the tee and actually had a birdie with his fifth! He has dropped to T7 with a round to go.
McLaren's 54-tally is seven-under-par 209.
His new closest challenge is Calum Fyfe (Cawder) who had a four-under-par 68, the best of the third round. He is on 217, two shots ahead of joint third placed Adam Dunton (McDonald Ellon) 74 and defending champion Stephen Roger (Cruden Bay) 73.
The only other player to break 70 was home course player Chris Lamb with a 69 for 220.
Another highlight in the third round was a hole in one by birthday "boy" Andrew Campbell (Murcar Links). He had a "surprise" birthday celebration on Saturday night and did his own celebration today with an ace at 181yd ninth hole with a five-iron. It was his second hole in one.
