Day Two report

Clément Sordet and Daan Huizing both rose to the top of the leaderboard during a weather-affected second day at the Viking Challenge in Norway.

Heavy overnight rain flooded the course at Miklagard Golf, and after a six-hour delay, the second round began at 1.30pm.

With first round co-leaders Marcus Kinhult and Sihwan Kim not teeing off until this evening, the stage was set for a member of the chasing pack to make a move.

The Netherlands’ Huizing seized the initiative first, carding seven birdies and two bogeys on route to a second round of 67.

France’s Sordet also climbed up the rankings, making eight gains and two bogeys to sign for a 66 – the low round of the day in Norway.

With a number of players unable to complete their second rounds today, Sordet admitted he was relieved to have finished 36 holes in two days.

“It was a very long day,” said Sordet, who is eight under par overall. “I woke up at 6.30am and it is always a long day when you have a rain delay – I am just so glad to have finished.

“I shot a really good score today. It was a very good six under but the only downside was that I missed a one footer for par on the 16^th – that kind of hurt.

“But overall it was very good as I hit a lot of fairways, made a lot of putts and that led to me making so many birdies.

“My start to the season wasn’t that great, I only had two good finishes, but last week in Northern Ireland I started playing really well and I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

“There is plenty of golf left. This course is really tough and it can really get you, so you have to stay patient and just take it one step at a time.”

Also moving into contention on Day Two was Scotland’s Jack Doherty, who carded a four under 68 to move to six under 138 overall – two behind the leaders.

One shot further back is Australia’s Ben Eccles who after a four under 68 of his own sits on five under after two rounds.
Ross Kellett (72-70) and Scott Henry (73-69) will beat the cut on T42 but Bradley Neil will not. He has had two bad rounds of 77 and 76 for 153 and will already have packed his case to return early from Norway to Blairgowrie.
