Forfar amateur Balneaves wins Midland


Alliance championship at windy Arbroath



Liam Balneaves, a one-handicap member of Forfar Golf Club won the Midland Golfers' Alliance championship, sponsored by Perla Shower Panels, at a windy Arbroath links today.

He won the 36-hole title with a four-over-par total of 144, made up of rounds of 71 and 73.

The amateur won by two strokes from Glenrothes professional Craig Knowles (75-81) and Stuart McKendrick, a scratch player at Dunkeld and Birnam Golf Club.

In the handicap section there was a tie for first place between David Morrison (Blair Atholl) (handicap 11) and Keith Bruce (Edzell) (2), 2) both with net totals of 144.

In the McQueen Shield, played over 18 holes, Len Grindrod (Mar Hall) won with a net score of 67 off a handicap of seven.
