Johnston through to last eight: Sick Ross

retires after six holes of all-Scots tie

Liam Johnston (Dumfries and County) is through to the quarter-finals of the South African men's amateur championship at Humewood Golf Club.
Defending champion Craig Ross (Kirkhill) retired after only six holes of today's second round tie against fellow Scot  Johnston who
whipped Robert Foley from Switzerland 6 and  5 to earn his berth in the quarter-final.

Gerry Smith has informed Scottishgolfview.com:
"I have been told by Craig's father that Craig was up all night before the match;  never got a sleep, sick all day. (Scottish Golf coach) Ian Rae asked him to try but Craig was sick at the course. He's gutted as he just hit form: 23 under par with no bogeys over his last four rounds."
