LAW LEADS FOUR LIKELY LADS AT HALFWAY STAGE OF  Q SCHOOL

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
David Law is now the leading Scot in joint fifth place after three rounds of the European Tour School's Final Qualifying tournament over 108 holes at PGA Catalunya.
The Aberdonian today (Monday) shot a two-under-par 68 at the shorter Tour Course at the Girona venue in North-east Spain and has a tally of seven-under-par 205 for the first 54 holes.
It was one of the day's few sub-par rounds in windy conditions and Law is only two shots behind the joint leaders on 203, Englishmen Robert Coles and Richard McEvoy.
There will be a cut to the leading 70 players and ties after Tuesday's fourth round.
Alongwith Law, Blairgowrie's Bradley Neil (71 for 207), Scott Henry (70 for 209) and Ross Kellett (73 for 211) all look set to advance to the fifth and sixth rounds which will decide the leading 25 players who will gain European Tour status for 2017.
Neil, who is tied 13th, had an eagle at a par-5 hole, the 10th, for the second day in a row but he needed that and four birdies to compensate for a bag of seven bogeys, including five in six holes from the 12th to the 17th.
Henry, sharing 29th place, had a double bogey 6 at the third but four birdies helped him match the par of the Tour course with a 70. He is tied 30th.
Kellett, who, like Law, plays out of the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre, slipped back to joint 48th place with a 73, which included five bogeys, at the Tour Course.
The other three Scots in the starting field of 156, all of whom paid a £1,400 entry fee, look doomed to failure.
Craig Lee has a slender chance of making the top 70 and ties after a 72 at the tougher Stadium Course left him tied for 100th place on 218. He will play his decisive fourth round over the Tour Course and if he could return a score in the mid-60s, he might make it yet to the final two rounds.
But, for Kirkcaldy-born Peter Whiteford (80 for 224 and 146th place) and Walker Cup man Grant Forrest (81 for 226 and 149th position), the chase for a place on the European Tour is all but over for another year.
