Four-way tie in
Scottish Seniors’ Autumn
Meeting at Nairn Dunbar
By GORDON THOMSON
A dramatic day’s golf at Nairn Dunbar in the Scottish Seniors Autumn Meeting ended in a four-way tie on 148 involving Maurice
Lindsay (Broughty), Stewart Finnie (Royal Aberdeen), Lindsay Gordon (Turnhouse
) and Robert Smith (Nairn).
Joint overnight leader, Grant McNab (Lundin) was one shot
behind on 149 with new senior international cap, Nick Robson (Meldrum House) in
sixth place on 150. David Logie (Craigie Hill) finished in a group of five on
151, aided by a hole in one at the
eighth hole.
Gordon set the early target
but dropped shots late on in compiling his 75 for 148. It looked as if
Smith would overtake him when he turned in 36 but a disappointing homeward half of 40 meant he could only draw level.
With the back nine playing increasingly harder as the wind rose, Lindsay and Finnie also dropped shots, returning in 39 and
40 respectively.
Playing in the last match, Grant McNab looked as if he might
overtake the leading group or at least join a five-way tie but his chance went
with a costly 7 at the long 16th.
The CSS for the day was 75 for the par 72 course.
