Stephen Roger wins NE youths' title by seven

strokes at Newmachar

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Cruden Bay's Stephen Roger won the North-east District youths' championship by seven strokes over two rounds at Newmachar Golf Club's Hawkshill course today.
Roger, who won the Scottish youths title earlier in the summer, showed his class again with two rounds of 67 for a 10-under-par total of 134.
The 18-year-old +2 player, a full-time amateur since he left school a year ago,  had 12 birdies over the day, six in the first round and six in the second.
Runners-up on 141 were Chris Lamb (Newmachar) (71-70), who won the Newmachar Open with a 68 on Saturday, and Ray Gordon (Alford). Lamb's better second round earned him second prize.
