Ed Wood leads by one at halfway in Cameron
Corbett Vase, Barry Hume T2 a shot behind
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Ed Wood has a one-stroke lead at the halfway stage of the 72-hole Cameron Corbett Vase, a Scottish Golf Order of Merit event, at Haggs Castle Golf Club, Glasgow.
The Crow Wood GC member has had rounds of 72 and 68 for a four-under-par tally of 140. His second round included a double bogey 5 at the short 11th or he would have a handy lead to take into Sunday's final two rounds.
On the credit side Wood birdied the short second, the long fourth, 12th and 16th then finished in grandstand style with an eagle 3 at the par-5 18th in halves of 34.
One shot off the pace are the first-round leader, Barry Hume, playing over his home course. The winner of the Welsh open amateur title earlier this season, Hume has had scores of 69 and 72, covering his last seven holes of the day in three under par to stay in the mix after standing three over par for his second round as he stood on the 12th tee
Birdies at the 12th and 13th plus an eagle 3 for the second time in the day at the par-5 18th showed that Barry is still capable of a Sunday run through to victory.
Also on 141 with Hume is Englishman Angus Flanagan (St George's Hill) who has had two steady rounds of 70 and 71.
They are two shots clear of the fourth-placed Lawrence Allan (Alva) who plays on the US college golf circuit. He has scored 72 and 71.
A two-round total of 151 and better qualified for the final two rounds. The most notable non-qualifier was probably Craig Watson (East Renfrewshire).
