Stars of the future take centre stage at East

Lothian

NEWS RELEASE
Golf fans are being given the chance to see some of the pros of the future when more than 600 budding junior golfers will take to the tee on Scotland’s Golf Coast. Spectators can be sure they will see some high quality action from some of the best young golfers in the world, playing on East Lothian’s world-class golf courses.
The tournament, which gives a million pound plus boost to the local economy, brings in talent from as far afield as Australia and Mauritius.
With five days of play culminating in the Ryder Cup style Van Horn Cup, junior golfers and their families often take the trip over as a family holiday and take the opportunity to explore East Lothian and beyond.

Dan Van Horn, President and founder of U.S. Kids Golf, said: “I’m always blown away at the talent and dedication shown by the players at the European Championship. But even more, the passion and enjoyment that the players and their families have for being here is my greatest takeaway. We love coming to Scotland, the Home of Golf, and appreciating the history and beauty of the game that this community promotes so well.

“This event is proof that you can have a major championship for kids, where the competition level is the highest you’ll find anywhere, and still enjoy the laughter, camaraderie and energy that young players bring to golf.

“Many of these players will go on to have great successful careers in golf, whether it’s in college, working or hopefully, playing on Tour. I hope all of them continue to keep golf a big part of their life. In watching them play and have fun, I am confident they will.”

The tournament benefits more than just the skills of the players involved as the influx of tourists staying in Gullane and the surrounding area fills hotels and B and Bs providing a welcome economic injection to local businesses.

As one of the biggest junior international golf tournaments in the world, the European Championship also helps to raise the profile of the five courses played; Gullane No.3, Craigielaw,LongniddryLuffness and The Glen and draw attention to East Lothian as one of Scotland’s premier golf destinations.

The Tournament takes places from Tuesday, May 31 - Thursday, June 2 with the Van Horn Cup on Friday, June 3.
