An aerial view of the Westchester GC clubhouse.

Gary Weir is alive and doing well at

Westchester Golf Club, New York

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

Ever wondered what happened to Gary Weir, who played successfully on the Tartan Tour and was a Scottish assistants champion?
Thanks to the wonders of "Facebook," which, I have to confess, I have not begun to master, I was reminded of Gary by a Facebook message a day or two ago, saying he wanted to be one of my friends!
Turns out Gary, pictured right, has been on the pro staff of  a very swanky New York State sporting establishment, Westchester Golf Club since 2001 and is its "Director of Instruction."

Here's what the Westchester GC website has to say

Gary Weir - Director of Instruction
Gary is a AByA Class member of the PGA.  He was born in Glasgow  and has been at Westchester since 2001.  He was a former Head Professional at Elderslie Golf Club and a former Director of Golf at Braid Hills in Edinburgh.
A former winner of the National Assistants Championship, Gary has played on the European, Asian and African Tours.  His students have included previous winners on the PGA European Tour, Asian Tour, Safari Tour and the LPGA.

His students have gone on to win such events as the British Amateur, the Women's Met Open and the Women's New York State Amateur.  He has also taught juniors who have won on both the American Junior Golf Association and International Junior Tours.

Gary and his wife, Laura live in Irvington, New York.

Westchester Golf Club, New York State's impressive golf club is hiding behind this equally impressive frontage.
