David Law, Duncan Stewart in the Madrid mix

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
David Law and Duncan Stewart are in strong contention after two rounds of the Madrid Challenge at Real Club La Herreria in the Spanish capital city.
Aberdonian Law has had rounds of 68 and 66 for 10-under-par 134 and is tied second with Sebastien Soderberg (Sweden) and Welshman Rhys Enoch, only one shot behind the leader, Italy's Francesco Laporta (64-69 for 133).
Stewart, from Grantown-on-Spey but now based in Edinburgh and playing out of Turnhouse Golf Club, shot 69-66 for a share of fifth place on135.
Law, starting at the 10th, birdied his first three holes, then the 15th and 16th in a bogey-free 30 for his first nine. He cooled off a bit with bogeys at the second and seventh but  a birdie 4 at the par-5 eighth set the seal on a very good day for the Scot.
David said later by Email "I played great on my front 9 (the back 9) and slowed up a little on my back 9 but I was  really happy with the score as the course is tough. I am playing and putting  well and looking forward to the weekend."
Stewart also had an early bogey, at the second, but he too picked up the scent of birdies and had gains at the third, sixth, ninth, 13th and 17th.
The only other Scot to survive the second-round cut at 141 and better was Peter Whiteford, who is tied 17th on 137 after rounds of 70 and 67.
George Murray (144), Chris Doak (14), Paul Shields (145), Jack Doherty (149), Bradley Neil (150) and Scott Henry (151) all missed the cut
