Sean Lawrie and Gordon Munro tie with 

seven-under-par 63s at Ellon

The North-east Golfers' Alliance campaign ended on a high note at McDonald Golf Club, Ellon today (Wednesday) with some of the lowest scoring of the season at the head of a field of 68 players.
Young Paul Lawrie Golf Centre professional Sean Lawrie, nephew of Paul, tied with Fraserburgh amateur Gordon Munro on seven-under-par 63.
They finished only one stroke ahead of joint third-placed Craig Lawrie, winner of the championship last week, and Kevin Duncan, both playing out of the Paul Lawrie Golf Centre.
Sean Lawrie had eight birdies in the 14-hole span from the fourth to the 17th. But he three-putted the last for 29 home.
Munro's fireworks came over the first 13 holes. Out in six-under 31 with an eagle 3 at the ninth and birdies at the first, second, fifth, sixth and eighth, he got it as low as eight under a birdie at the 13th.
Lawrie earned £100 in cash, Munro a £100 amateur prize voucher.
Duncan should have made it a triple tie on 63 but he missed a 2ft par putt on the last green, his only bogey of the day.
Craig Lawrie had the best inward half of the day - five-under-par 28 with birdies at the 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 16th. 
From the 10th to the 16th inclusive, Craig was one under 3s, made up of one 2 (at the short 12th) and six 3s, four of them birdies. He and Duncan earned £60 each for joint third.
Order of Merit winner John Duff (Newmachar) and Royal Aberdeen amateur Donald Macandrew tied for fifth place on 69.
The final three competitions were sponsored by the magazine, Golf Monthly whose correspondent Fergus Bisset (Banchory) is a regular on the NE Alliance circuit.
The North-east Alliance annual meeting will be held at Craibstone Golf Club on the evening of Monday, September 5. The first competition of the 2016-17 season will be at Craibstone on Wednesday, September 7.
