Evergreen David Smith leads SSGS Winter 


Order of Merit race after two events

Former European seniors champion, David Smith (Stirling) leads the Scottish Senior Golfing Society Winter Order of Merit race  after the first two of the scheduled five events.  
David has a lead of 8.5 points over last year’s winner, Alan Harrington (Western Gailes) with Keith Ross (Beith) in third place just ahead of Callander duo, George Barrie and Brian Halbert.
The second event was played at West Kilbride on Thursday in excellent weather conditions with some players playing in short sleeves. 

Robert Gordon  (Glenearn) won that event with a fine score of 41 points,boosted by a superb finish of 12 points in the last four holes to overtake Keith Ross on 40 points. David Smith, Neil McGarva (Kilmacolm), Bill Erskine (Kilsyth) and Phil Hendry (Alloa ) were a point further back on 39 points.
Still a formidable competitor at the age of 72, Smith will be looking to strengthen his lead in the next event which takes place at Monifieth on Friday, March 18.
