Craig Ross through to 36-hole
South African championship final
Craig
Ross (Kirkhill), pictured above, is through to the 36-hole final of the South African
men's amateur golf championship at George Golf Club with high hopes of
being the fourth Scot to win the title in the past six years.
Ross beat Matt Saulez (Durban) 5 and 3 in the morning quarter-finals.
Then he beat Marco Steyn (Modderfontein) by 2 and 1 in the afternoon semi-finals.
Ross will now play a clubmate of Steyn, Dylan Naidoo.
The Scot, who is hoping to keep the trophy in Scottish hands following
the triumph of Daniel Young last year, was excited to be in a
final he reached when he birdied the par-three 17th against Steyn and on a day when he made a few long putts.
“I’m
so grateful. I’ve been playing solid all week and I’m quite happy that
my putting has been really good. It’s great to give myself a
chance to win this prestigious title.”
