Handicapped Scots do well to finish fifth of 16
in Men's Nations Cup at Sotogrande
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Scotland,
handicapped by the disqualification of Ewen Ferguson in the first
round, finished a creditable fifth of 16 teams in the Men's Nations Cup
amateur golf tournament at Sotogrande on Spain's Costa del Sol today.
Ireland (882), spearheaded by Jack Hume who won the individual title by six strokes, won from France (892), Wales (895), England (906) and Scotland (908).
Ferguson's
dismissal from the tournament for failing to sign his first-round card
put the pressure on his team-mates, all of whose scores had to count. The
rest of the teams were able to discard their worst score per round.
