Forrest and Ferguson sitting pretty in Aussie 

amateur championship match-play qualifying

Walker Cup players Grant Forrest (Craigelaw) and Ewen Ferguson (Bearsden) are well within the match-play qualifying sone after the first round of the Australian men's amateur championship at Metropolitan and Peninsula Kingswood golf clubs, Victoria.
But fellow Scots Jack McDonald (Barassie) and Connor Syme (Drumoig) are tied 57th with only the leading 64 advancing to the match-play stages.7
Forrest and Ferguson both shot one-under-par 71s to be T18 in a field of 234. They are seven strokes behind the leader, Kevin Yuan (Australia).
Forrest had birdies at the long fifth, 10th, 14th and 17th in halves of 37-34. He bogeyed the third sixth, 13th.
Ferguson had halves of 34 and 37, birdieing the first, second, seventh, 16th and 18th. He had two 6s on his card, at the par-4 11th and the par-5 12th. He also bogeyted the short sixth.
McDonald had a double bogey 6 at the 11th and also dropped a shot at the short 13th, cancelled out by birdies at the long 12th and 17th in halves of 36-37.
Syme shot 35-38 with a double bogey 7 at the long 16th. He birdied the long fifth, 10th and 17th.
Ashton Turner from Eng;land was the best placed British player at the end of the first day. He shot a fourt-under-68 to be T6.
