Moore goes seven clear with Carris Trophy      course record at Little Aston
Derbyshire’s Bradley Moore swept away from the field at the Carris Trophy today when he shot a course record 65 at Little Aston Golf Club to get to 10-under par with a round to play.
He is seven shots ahead of his closest rival, John Axelsen of Denmark, who scored 69 today and is the only other player under par. Harry Hall (West Cornwall) and Portugal-based Nathan Brader are both level for the English boys' open stroke play championship.
Moore (Kedleston Park) simply played his own game and ignored the leaderboards around the course. “I don’t think there’s any point looking until the back nine tomorrow,” he said.
“It was one of those days when I wasn’t really thinking about my score. I was just setting myself targets – and today I did a bit better than I expected!”
Moore had eight birdies and hit every green except the 11th – and there he got up and down for par.
He started steadily, claiming his first birdie on the long third, and then picked up the momentum with two more on six and seven. He stalled temporarily with the only bogey of his round on the eighth – where he caught a bunker – but then forged ahead, spurred on when he holed a 40-footer for a two on the ninth.
That was a turning point,” he remarked.
He went on to play the back nine in four-under, with birdies on 10, 12, 14 and 17. He had a six-footer for another on the 18th, but it was a slippery downhill putt and he was content to settle for his 65. The score stands as a new record following alterations to the course.
“My game has felt solid all week,” said Moore. “It’ll be the same again tomorrow, I’ll just go out, play my game and trust it, because it’s been working.”
He will also aim to enjoy it: “John (Gough) and I had a good chat all the way round today, which was nice. Tomorrow I’m playing with John Axelsen and I know him from European events and we get on well.”
Axelsen was the only other player to break 70 today and will be hunting birdies tomorrow. “It’s going to be a low score tomorrow, I need it!
“Today I had a lot of putts for birdie which didn’t drop but it was a good score – and unfortunately for me Bradley just tore the course apart. But that’s good, I have respect that he shot seven-under and if I lose to that it’s all right.”
“I’m going to give it the best chance I can,” he added.
Sweden’s Hugo Townsend leads the chase for the Hazards Salver which is presented to the leading U16 in the field. He’s three-over par and two ahead of Jake Benson (Beeston Fields) and Adalberto Montini of Italy.
Meanwhile, Bradley Moore also leads the challenge for the Malcolm Reid Salver which is presented to the player with the best aggregate score in the Carris Trophy and the Peter McEvoy Trophy.
Today’s third round brought some spectacular examples of scoring. Denmark’s Christoffer Bring began his round with five consecutive birdies, before eventually finishing with two-under 70 and is tied sixth. Josh Oddy (Westridge) also had a perfect start, holding a 70-yard shot on the first for an eagle two. He went on to score 73 and is tied 22nd. Billy Spooner (Woodhall Spa) drove into the lake on the 17th but went on to make par, despite a penalty. He also shares sixth place.

Fox smashes course record in Franch Challenge Tour event

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Ryan Fox finished with four birdies and an eagle in his final six holes to smash the course record with a nine under par round of 62 to lead by one shot from Robert Coles after the first round of Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge.
The New Zealander made his Major Championship debut at St Andrews last week, finishing in the top 50 of The Open Championship after a fine 67 in the final round, and he continued that form in France.
The 28 year old is only playing in his fourth European Challenge Tour event but recorded top ten finishes in his first two tournaments, and he believes he is in strong enough form to win this week.
“I am obviously pretty happy after that,” he said. “I played great all day and got pretty hot on the back nine. I had a couple of nice ones to finish and it was just a good day all round.
“This is my fourth event in Europe, and last week at The Open was a great week. I played great in the last round and I’ve managed to keep that going here.
“I felt that every part of my game has been really close to firing well. For a while I’ve put some good scores on the board without shooting a really low one.
“Today I saw everything finally come together. The putter worked and my ball striking was good, so I’m really pleased with my game right now and looking forward to the weekend.”
Coles must have thought his eight under par 63 from the morning would be good enough for the overnight lead, a fine bogey-free round after he started on the tenth.
The experienced Englishman currently sits 20th in the Road to Oman Rankings, largely helped by his tied second place at last month’s SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts.

A win here would boost his bid for the top 15, and with it European Tour qualification for next season.
“I’m very pleased,” he said. “I haven’t been playing too badly in last few weeks and then I had a week off, which was nice.
“When I started today it was steady and my putting was good, and it saved me a few times early on when I didn’t quite hit such good shots.

“Then on our back nine it started get a little bit better, I had more chances and my putting was still very good so it all came together.”
Two shots behind Coles is Connor Arendell on six under par, the American bidding to go one better than his joint runner-up finish in this event last year.
Home hopes will focus on the two Frenchmen, Adrien Bernadet and David Bobrowski, both one shot further back on five under par, alongside Denmark’s Andreas Hartø.
Last year’s winner Andrew Johnston went on to top the 2014 Challenge Tour Rankings while joint runner-up Byeong-hun An also graduated and earned his maiden European Tour win at the BMW PGA Championship in May, achievements this week’s field will be looking to emulate.
The inaugural winner of this event, American Brinson Paolini, is also back in France and gunning for a repeat of his 2013 triumph, but an opening 72 left him ten shots adrift after round one.

Gavins leads by one at Hawkstone Park

NEWS RELEASE
FROM NICK TEALE
Daniel Gavins will take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Wealth Design Invitational as he aims to catapult himself into the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour’s top five with a win at Hawkstone Park.

Gavins graduated from the EuroPro to the Challenge Tour in 2013 but was unable to maintain full playing rights at that level for this year. He is 12 under par after rounds of 62 and 68 on the par-71 Championship Course and is trailed by former European Tour player Andrew Marshall (Bawburgh ) and Darren Wright (Golf at Goodwood), a EuroPro winner at Burhill earlier in the season. Both are 11 under.

Paul Howard (Southport and Ainsdale) is hunting his second EuroPro win since turning professional earlier this year. He was the victor in the Paul Lawrie Granite City Classic at Newmachar last month and is two back on -10 at Hawkstone Park.
A cut to the leading 50 players and ties has now been made, with all those two under par or better proceeding to play the concluding 18 holes.

Eight share lead on 65 in Senior

Open first round at Sunningdale

 EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Bernhard Langer made an impressive start to the defence of his title in The Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex, with the German part of a record eight-way share for the lead after the opening round at Sunningdale Golf Club.
Langer ripped up the record books on his own 12 months ago as he raced to an unprecedented 13-stroke victory at Royal Porthcawl, in Wales, but he had to share another piece of history on this occasion following a five under par opening round of 65.
That total was matched by the American quintet of Michael Allen, Bart Bryant, Marco Dawson, Lee Janzen and Jeff Sluman, Spaniard Miguel Angel Jiménez and Lianwei Zhang, who also created history by becoming the first Chinese player to compete in The Senior Open. The previous record for the most players tied for first round lead in the Senior Open was four players, which happened in both 2004 and 2007.
Langer is bidding to equal the record of three victories in the Senior Open, currently held by Gary Player and Tom Watson, and despite not hitting top gear, the 57 year old former Ryder Cup Captain moved ominously to the top of the leaderboard with six birdies against just a single bogey, which came on the sixth hole.
“I held it together well today,” said Langer. “My putting was pretty good. I don't feel totally comfortable with my swing yet, I’m still working on it. I think I get underneath it a bit which causes a push-fade and a pull-hook. I’m trying to improve in that area. But overall, five-under is a good score, and I didn't make any major mistakes and kept it together.”
His playing partner, Jiménez, is competing in his second Senior Open after finished tied eighth last year, and the oldest winner in European Tour history is looking to add a maiden Senior Major Championship to his glittering CV. He also carded six birdies, with his only bogey of the day on the 17th hole.
“It's a good start. The target is still at the end of the week and the thing you need to do is keep enjoying it and have fun like I did today on the golf course.
“I remember the golf course. At the beginning of the week, you feel like there are a few holes missing but the golf course, it's a great golf course. Its firm fairways. The greens, they are really softer than what we played yesterday and the day before in practice but the golf course, it's a very good golf course.”
Welshman Mark Mouland, American Brian Henninger and Argentine Cesar Monasterio are one shot behind the leaders on four under par, while Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie and American Watson are among eight players tied a further shot back on three under par.
Montgomerie, the three-time Senior Major Champion who finished runner up to Langer last year, posted five birdies in his round of 67, but a double bogey six on the par four 11th hole cost him a share of the lead.
“It was disappointing to double a hole, my God, because it was playing as easy as it possibly can be,” said Montgomerie. “But 67, we've said many times before, you can only lose it today and not win it. If that's the worst score I do around here, I should be okay.”
Watson managed one more birdie than his playing partner Montgomerie, but also dropped three shots on the back nine to also settle of a share of 12th place.
“I hit some quality iron shots, made a few putts, and hit a few awkward shots, but other than that, it was a good round of golf,” said Watson. “After four under on the front side, I'm thinking, my age is 65 and this is a par 70. So maybe I got a little greedy out there, I don't know.”
Meanwhile, on a day of firsts, Englishman Barry Lane also entered the record books after holing his 218 yard second shot with a four iron on the par five first hole to become the first player in Senior Tour history to begin a tournament with an albatross.
Remarkably, the feat was then repeated three hours and 20 minutes later when American Steve Jones holed his 179 yard approach with a six iron.
Bruce Davidson, originally from Banchory but a resident of the United States for the best part of 20 years, had a two-over-par 72.

Sandy Scott wins Scottish boys' stroke title by

six strokes from Calum Fyfe, Rory Franssen
Sandy Scott receives the championship trophy from another man originally from the North, Royal Burgess Golfing Society captain John Fraser. Picture by courtesy of the Scottish Golf Union.

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Nairn's Sandy Scott scored his third win inside the past two months when he romped home with six strokes to spare in the Scottish boys' open stroke-play championship over the Royal Burgess Golfing Society at Barnton, Edinburgh today.
Scott, who turned 17 only near the end of June, shot impressive rounds of 65, 69, 69 and 70 for an 11-under-par total of 273 in chalking up his best and biggest win todate.
Winner of the Nairn Golf Club men's championship - he beat another junior, Rory Franssen, who was a fast finishing third today - Scott went farther afield to win the Stephen Gallacher Foundation Trophy.
Then he won his first SGU 72-hole Order of Merit event, the East of Scotland Open, at Lundin.
At the weekend he led at halfway in another OoM tournament, the Sutherland Chalice at Dumfries and Galloway, but could not hold the pack at bay over the final two rounds.
But there was never any danger of Scott squandering another 36-hole lead. He had eight birdies over his first two rounds at Barnton and nine over the third and fourth circuits today.
Scott's first two rounds were bogey free but he had a double bogey 6 at the fourth in his third round. If upset him, it did not show on his scorecard after that.
Calum Fyfe (Cawder) came through into second place with third and fourth rounds of 70 and 68 for 279. Fyfe is something of a short-hole expert. He had four birdie 2s over rounds two, three and four, two of them coming when he needed them to get the better of Franssen in the battle for second place.
The Inverness player's third-round 72 left him with too much ground to make up on Fyfe in the final circuit but he did the next best thing, he matched his three-under closing 68.
Royal Aberdeen's Fintan McKenna, who set an amateur course record of nine-under-par 62 on Wednesday, shot rounds of 81 and 78 for a total of 299 today. Golf's a funny game but Fintan should console himself, if indeed he needs consoling, that no-one can take away from him the fact that he is the Royal Burgess course record-holder unless they score a 61 or better!  And that won't happen for a long, long time.

Scott Storms to Latest Win at Scottish Boys Open Stroke Play
  NEWS RELEASE FROM SGU
  By ED HOGE, SGU
Sandy Scott is making a name for himself within the amateur ranks, after notching his third domestic victory in only the last 40 days.
Nairn’s Scott won twice last month – the Stephen Gallacher Foundation Trophy and the men’s East of Scotland Championship – and made it a hat-trick of recent successes after a wire-to-wire victory over the immaculate Edinburgh layout.
Having led by three shots going into the final 36 holes, the Scottish Golf Academy player extended his advantage to seven after a third-round 69.
A closing 70 sealed an 11-under-par winning total in the leading 72-hole junior event, with Cawder’s Calum Fyfe his nearest challenger on five under after he closed with a 68. Fyfe made a brilliant birdie burst in the final round, only for three dropped shots in the last five holes.
“This is definitely the best I’ve ever played,” said Scott, who has extended his lead at the top of the SGU Boys Order of Merit. “It’s all come together for me at the same time. This season I’ve played in a lot more events, playing with good players, which has certainly helped me gain experience and build my confidence.
“I got a wee scare from Calum halfway round in the final round, as I knew he was going well, but I just tried to stay focused on what I was doing and limit my mistakes.”
Rory Franssen from Inverness finished third on three under par in the international field, but there was disappointment for Fintan McKenna from Royal Aberdeen.
After firing a brilliant new amateur course record on Wednesday, a nine-under-par 62 which was the first time he scored under par, the north-east player followed that with rounds of 81 and 78 to fall into a tie for 30th spot.
Andrew Thomson from Lanark, Liberton’s Kieran Cantley and Stephen Roger of Cruden Bay all shared fifth place on one over par.
Scott, who made his international debut earlier this month in the European Boys Team Championship in Finland, is now relishing the chance to play renowned Open venue Muirfield in next week’s Fairstone Scottish Amateur Championship.
The Nairn Academy pupil, who is coached by David Torrance and Ian Muir, added: “I’m really looking forward now to next week’s Scottish Amateur at Muirfield, a course I’ve never played before but heard so much about. I’ll treat it as another tournament and look to do well again.”

McGhee shares the spoils with the "locals" at

Banff pro-am

James McGhee gatecrashed the locals' "party" to share in a four-way tie finish to the Duff House Royal Golf Club pro-am today.
The three others - Greig Hutcheon and Greg McBain from the Paul Lawrie stable and Scott Henderson (Kings Links, Aberdeen) -
all from the North-east, know the Banff par-68 lay-out better than most  and were sharing the clubhouse lead with level-par rounds over what can be a tricky course with a bit of a wind blowing.
Then McGhee, from the Bishopbriggs Golf Range, came in late in the day with a fourth 68 to reduce the pay-out to £883 each
Henderson and Hutch had matching halves of 34-34; McBain 32-36 which included an eagle 2 at the par-4 eighth, while McGhee was out in 33 and home in 35.
Joint fifth finisher Paul O'Hara (Clydeway Golf) was one under par with three holes to play but bogeyed the 16th and 17th to drop back to a 69 alongside Craig Matheson (Falkirk Tryst).
They earned £400 each.
Matheson also led the CMB Building Contractors team of Graham Buxton (handicap 18), Graeme Masson (8) and James Cumming (11) to victory in the team event with a net, best ball score of 13-under-par 55.
