Tell us if you've heard this one before: Bernhard Langer is Champions Tour Player of the Year.
The 58-year-old was announced as the 2015 winner on Saturday, a distinction Langer earned after a year that included two wins – the Constellation Senior Players' Championship and the San Antonio Championship – and his third Charles Schwab Cup title.
This is Langer's record fifth time earning Champions Tour player of the year distinction – officially recognized as the Jack Nicklaus Award. The German is now a back-to-back winner of the award for a second time, as his other four years taking home the honor occurred in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2014.
And to top it off, Langer also finished as the 2015 Champions Tour money leader in earning the Arnold Palmer Award (his seventh) and posted the season's lowest scoring average for the Byron Nelson Award (his fourth).
His Jack Nicklaus Award win, though, was done through a vote by his 50-and-over peers, and Langer was grateful.
"I'm thrilled to be voted by my peers as the Player of the Year," Langer said in a statement. "The Jack Nicklaus Award is a very meaningful achievement in my career, and to have now won it five times is certainly pretty special. There are so many great players on the Champions Tour and it has become so competitive. This honor is something I don’t take for granted.”
Langer was voted over Billy Andrade, Jeff Maggert, Colin Montgomerie and Marco Dawson for the award. Maggert (four wins) and Andrade (three wins) actually had more victories on the season but lacked the Charles Schwab trophy that could have very much aided their candidacies.
The final award named was Champions Tour Rookie of the Year, which went to Jerry Smith. The 51-year-old didn't miss a cut in 21 events and compiled a win at the Encompass Championship in July along with two other top-10s in his maiden Champions Tour season.
