Neil Henderson wins in tight finish

Edinburgh and East of Scotland Alliance

On a well timed break in the weather 88 members of the Edinburgh and East Alliance enjoyed a rain-free round at Musselburgh on a course that stood up remarkably well following the monsoons of the previous day.

Scratch and Handicap scoring was excellent and closely contested. Indeed, the winner of The Professionals Trophy went down to the better inward 6 holes on the par 71 course (36,35)

First player out Andy Rothney (Deer Park) threw down the gauntlet with a net 69 (71 less 2) with a fine outward 31 and remained 5 under par after 14 holes however was disappointed to drop 5 shots over the last 4 holes.

In the end 68 was the score that was achieved by 3 players which required a countback to find the trophy winner. 

 The players being Alan Reid (West Lothian) 68 who was 6 under though 12 holes but dropped 3 shots in last 6 holes. David Meldrum (Uphall)  (72 less 4) was up next and will rue his double bogey at the last hole. Finally in the last match Neil Henderson (Renaissance Club) also carded 68 with a few putts coming back that failed to drop. The back 9 saw Alan Reid on 36 and David Meldrum & Neil Henderson on 35. 

 The last 6 holes saw Neil Henderson do enough by narrow margin to claim the trophy with his total of 23 against David Meldrum's total of 23.7.

Neil Henderson (Renaissance Club) and Alan Reid (West Lothain) shared the top Scratch prize with their scores of 68 with 3rd prize being shared on 70 by Craig Gordon (Edinburgh Golf Centre) and Keir McNicoll (Gullane).

David Meldrum (Uphall) had the consolation of receiving the top handicap prize on net 68 (72 less 4). 2nd prize was shared 4 ways on net 69 via John Masterton (Mortonhall) (78 less 9), Andy Rothney (Deer Park) (71 less 2), Jimmy Sinton (Musselburgh) (82 less 13) and Ian Taylor (Eyemouth) (72 less 3).

Top Trainee was Louis Gaughan (Bathgate) on 73 and top Senior was Duncan McInnes (Longniddry) on net 72 (83 less 11).

Despite missing todays outing Andy Marshall remains at the top of the Scratch Order of Merit but his lead reduced substantially -

1. Andy Marshall (Houston Golf Range) - 232.0

2.Andrew Erskine (Ratho Park) - 226.0

3. Richard Johnston (Glenbervie) - 207.0

In the Handicap Order of Merit Ian Wyse moves from 2nd to top -

1. Ian Wyse (Falkirk Tryst) - 73.0

2. Willie Laing (Prestonfield) - 58.5

3. Graeme Johnston (Glenbervie) - 55.5

In two weeks the next event is the Invitational Better Ball at The Roxburghe.
