Craig Pirie wins Argyll and Bute stroke-play

title for first time, seven years after father

Craig Pirie from Millport secured his first Argyll and Bute stroke-play title on Saturday at a bright but breezy Machrihanish Dunes.
His superb afternoon bogey-free, three-under round of 69 added to his morning 75 gave him an even par total of 144.
This was good enough to earn a three-stroke victory from Blairmore and Strone veteran Gordon Tyre.
In third place was the first round leader Bute's Graham Bolton who slumped to a 78 in the afternoon.
In winning the title Craig joined his father Les in winning the area stroke-play title after his father's win in
2008 at Rothesay.
Also played in conjunction with the strokeplay event was the Youth's championship which was won by Machrihanish youngster Andrew Wallace who secured a six shot victory from Glencruitten's Sean Dunstaffnage.
To complete a good day for the Millport Club, they won the right to represent Argyll and Bute in the Scottish Club Championship to be held in September at Fortrose and Rosemarkie.
CSS for the morning was 75 reduction only and the afternoon was 73
