Hopeman's Kyle Godsman, third in the event last year, moved up into a share of the halfway lead alongside Cameron Franssen (Inverness) after shooting a four-under-par 66 as conditions at Cruden Bay improved significantly in the evening at the North-east District Open amateur championship, sponsored by the Kings Links Golf Centre, Aberdeen.
The Moray Golf Club member, pictured, who played on the US college circuit for four years, birdied the first, seventh, eighth, 13th and 16th after dropping early shots at the second and fifth.
Early starter Cameron Franssen had the worst of the rain on a miserably wet day until mid to late afternoon but, despite that, conjured up a pair of 69s to be the clubhouse leader for several hours.
Liam Johnston (Dumfries) also took advantage of a lovely sunning evening to return a one-under 69 for 139, one behind the co-leaders.
Stirling student Tom Beasley from Hunstanton, Norfolk was the first-round leader with a 68 but stumbled badly in the second round with a 79 for 147. Beasley's afternoon of woe was capped by a triple bogey 7 at the last
