Kevin Adams beat Craig Smith in final of
Kirkcudbright match-play championship
Kevin Adams beat Dalbeattie clubmate Craig Smith by 5 and 4 in the final of the Kirkcudbright match-play championship over the Brighouse Bay course. To get to
the final the two players had to finish in the top eight of the Kirkcudbright stroke-play championship and then overcome two rounds of match-play.
Craig defeated Roy Kerr (Southerness) and William Blayney
(Southerness) to reach the final while Kevin beat the talented young
William Squires (Kirkcudbright) and Ross Murray (Southerness).
Adams was three up at the turn in the final, having won the second, fifth and sixth holes, halving the third in birdies and losing only the seventh hole.
Smith reduced his defricit to three by winning the 10th but went three down again at the 11th and missed a chance to win the 12th where he three-putted.
Adams polished off his opponent by winning the 13th and 14th for a 5 and 4 victory.
President Peter Barrett thanked Gillespie Leisure for allowing the
final to take place on the Brighouse Course and Jim Dougal for all
his help.
