German breaks record in Fairhaven Trophies

The 2015 Fairhaven Trophies boys and girls' tournament is underway, and the scoring is matching the sunshine and blue skies

Despite an early morning frost, play got underway on time at 7.20am and the last players of the day also teed off on time at 3.30pm.

The course is great condition, with the greens running smoothly and true (11.5 on the stimp meter) and receptive to a good crisp iron shot, which has produced some great scores.

 

Germany’s Raphael Geissler (St Leon-Rot Golf Club) leads the way in the boys' championship with a course record-breaking score of 66 – 6 under par, which comprised seven birdies, three of which were on the par 3 holes, and one bogey.

 

England’s Elizabeth Prior (Burhill GC) leads the girls' championship with a great round of 72 – 3 under par. She is one shot ahead of fellow English player Emma Allen (Meon Valley G and CC) and Germany’s Anna Backman (Kanava GC), with Ireland's Mairead Martin (Killarney GC) a shot further back after a good round of 74

 

With half the players having completed their round Raphael leads the boys' championship by three strokes. His closest rival at the moment is Bailee Curran (Orsett GC) who held the early clubhouse with an excellent round of 69. 

The only other boy under par is Thomas Plumb (Sherborne GC) who scored a 2 under par round of 70. Holland’s Jim de Heij (Bentwoud GC) is next closest to the leading trio with a round of 73, a score he shares with William Enefer (Wrekin GC) and Coby Cartwright (Cosby GC).
Scottish Under-16 open girls champion Hollie Muse (West Lancs) had a rare offday. She scored a 79.
