Lothians impress in win over Northumberland

FROM THE LOTHIANS GOLF ASSOCIATION WEBSITE
A dominant singles display helped Lothians record a thumping 12.5-5.5 victory over Northumberland in an annual match played on this occasion at Duddingston last Sunday.
It was Lothians’ first triumph in the fixture since winning 9.5-8.5 at City of Newcastle in 2012, which was sandwiched by home defeats at Newbattle (12-6) in 2011 and Prestonfield (10-8) in 2013.
After the morning foursomes were shared 3-3, Keith Reilly’s men wasted no time wrapping up the welcome win by taking five-and-a-half points from the top six singles matches.
The hosts went on to claim the afternoon session 9.5-2.5 - an impressive performance.
Double winners on the day for Lothians were Kingsfield duo Allyn Dick and Jordyn Rhind, Ross Thomson (Gullane) and Keith Nicholson (Haddington).
Three others - Benn McLeod (Musselburgh), Kieran Cantley (Liberton) and Steven Armstrong (Turnhouse) - were undefeated.
